How To Turn Obstacles Into Opportunities with Ryan Holiday

Let’s get real honest for a second.

Right now, as you read these words, there is something in your life that is holding you back, keeping you down, or shutting you up.

Can you think of one?

Some sort of roadblock that is getting in your way.

You are being stared in the face by an obstacle.

And how you respond to this obstacle will affect how much success and happiness you experience in the coming months.

You see, most people crumble rather than face their obstacles. They avoid thinking about them and just hope they go away. They run.

This is living a life of weakness. Of hide-and-seek with your problems.

You don’t have to play that game.

There is another way. A better way.

You can turn these obstacles into opportunities.

Where the roadblock transforms into a jetpack so that whatever was holding you back now propels you forward.

When you learn this skill, what once made you retreat now helps you advance. You turn the obstacle on its head so that adversity becomes your advantage.

Sound like a pipe dream? It’s not.

This is not only possible but it has been documented thoroughly throughout history.

Time and time again, in the face of a tidal wave of adversity, some of the world’s greatest leaders learned to ride the wave so that what could have drowned them takes them to new shores.

This skill of turning trials into triumph is the subject of WSJ Bestselling Author, Ryan Holiday’s new book The Obstacle Is The Way.

Ryan, even though he’s only 26, has already accomplished more than most people do in a lifetime.

He’s the Director of Marketing for American Apparel, was Robert Greene’s media strategist, and his like book, Trust Me I’m Lying caused a big splash in the media industry.

To do all this, he’s had to overcome some major adversity. And he did it thanks to the philosophy he shares in his book.

The other day I got to interview Ryan to talk about this timeless art, his favorite historical examples of it being put into action, and the parallels of western philosophy and eastern wisdom.

It’s a quick (13 minutes) but fascinating conversation and I recorded it so that you could get an inside look into how to master this critical skill.

Watch the interview below. You can pick up his book here on Amazon.
