10 Reasons I Love My Mom More Than Anything

Over the last few months, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the importance of family.

It might seem simplistic, but I’ve truly realized that while many people come and go in our life, our our family is always there for us, both in good and bad times.

Even though I’ve been living all over the globe for the last 7 years, I’ve come to realize that my mom Francine, my dad Normand and my sister Erika are the 3 most important people in my life.

Recently, I’ve also been thinking about why I’m able to take so many risks and leaps of faith in my life. And again and again, I come to the same conclusion: it’s because deep in my heart, I know that whatever happens I’ll always have my family’s love and support behind me. I’ll always have a home to come back to, and even if I was to crash and burn, they would still love me just as much.

Knowing that, how can I be too scared to do anything?

On this Mother’s Day, I want to celebrate the most extraordinary woman I know, my mom Francine Blouin. I wish with all my heart I could be with her at home, but instead I’ve decided to put my writing skills to good use and write a special piece for her.

Maman, here are the top 10 reasons why I love you more than anything :)

10. You’ve given me the love of adventure

With all the trips you’re constantly taking (and dreaming about), you’ve instilled in me the wonder of exploring the world, discovering the people and the cultures along the way. You’re always planning some great expedition or project, and you’ve helped me see that travel = freedom.

9. You give great massages.

Oh how I miss those…

8. You’re the voice of reason when I’m being too impulsive.

Even if I don’t always agree with what you say, I always consider it strongly and really appreciate your perspective.

7. You’re an amazing cook and I love our conversations over dinner.

Ever since I’ve been a kid… Having dinner and talking with you has been one of my favourite things in the world. I look forward to doing many more times in the future. :)

6. You’re (almost) always enthusiastic and upbeat

Whenver we’re together, you’re full of joy and enthusiasm which makes being with you so enjoyable. Even when I’m grumpy, you find a way to make me feel good as you make me feel love and appreciated.

5. You’ve taught me more than anyone about compassion & caring

You’re always full of love for the people you come in contact with, and you deeply care about them. Everyone who knows you is lucky the have such a caring woman in their life.

4. You’re an inspiration

Every day you help many people live a better life through your caring and professional approach to medicine. You go on bike rides of more than 100km, you climb huge mountains, you travel the world, and you always take care of those around you. You’re a example of balance and

3. You’re an absolutely amazing listener

Through the years, sharing my secrets and challenges with you has been incredibly therapeutic, and I can’t thank you enough for how you always find a way to make me feel better.

2. You always support me in all my projects, even when you think they’re a little crazy.

It means the world to me to know that you’re behind me.  It’s what gives me the strength and courage to always go for it…

1. I’m the man I am today because of your love, tenderness and affection…

Every single morning, when I go for my morning run and think about the things I’m grateful for, I think of you and how lucky I am to be your son. I wouldn’t be half the man I am today if I didn’t have an extraordinary mom.

Je t’aime Maman. Bonne fete des meres!!! :)

  • Merci Philou pour cet original cadeau de Fête des Mères! Ton beau témoignage m’a touchée jusqu’au fond du coeur et m’a fait grandement plaisir.
Far from being perfect, I do my best to learn and become a better person just like you do and you inspire me. I am proud and happy to have a son that expresses his love and his ideas with an open mind. Thank you for the good you are doing around you! Maman xxx

  • What a great tribute to your mom Phil!

My wife and I wrote tributes to our parents that we shared with them at our reception on our wedding day. I can’t describe how much of an impact this had on them.

Honoring our parents is such an important practice that we should cultivate and do more of.

    Todd

    • Wow Todd that’s a great idea. I think just in general, acknowledging the popular we love, the people who bring joy into our life, is something we should start doing much more regularly. Why not share the love we feel for them? :)

  • Beautiful post man!

Anyway your website is awesome and the commentaries are informative too, I’ve read the hottest topic and they’re cool, I think I’ll even get to meditation too. I think you mentionned Dave Asprey somewhere, he’s cool too. I think it could be interesting if you talked more about sleeping patterns and sleeping hacks, if you had any experiences with that.

    • Thanks bro! Yeah I’ve learned some good stuff from Dave Asprey he’s definitely a very solid guy. Thanks for the sleeping recommendation, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve in this area. Here’s an interesting sleep hack if you want to get started right now: http://www.highexistence.com/alternate-sleep-cycles/

  • Thats soo sweet, my mother is also an amazing women, its funny last year in a class, they asked who is your role model, and when people were saying Obama, Warren Buffet, etc, I said my mother, I wouldnt be able to do half of the stuff if it wasnt for the values she ingrained in me.

Her bday is next month, Im going to write a tribute for her.

    • Glad you enjoyed it :) Great idea, your mom is going to be delighted I’m sure. Have a great day Yasmine!

  • I love this letter of you to your mom!.
Any mom would love to hear that.

  • Good blog you have got here.. It’s difficult to find quality writing like yours nowadays. I honestly appreciate people like you! Take care!!

  • Very good info. Lucky me I discovered your site by chance (stumbleupon). I’ve book-marked it for later!

  • Aw, this was a really good post. Spending some time and actual effort to make a great article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.

  • I think other web site proprietors should take this web site as an model, very clean and great user friendly style and design, let alone the content. You are an expert in this topic!
